Red Arrows shutout Rangers, 42-0ADA--The Red Arrows extended their win streak over Forest Hills Central to seven games with a 42-0 victory Thursday night. The defense held the Rangers to 8 yards of offense, including -28 yards rushing.
Junior quarterback Gabe Dean completed 9-of-13 passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Houston led Lowell receivers with six receptions for 58 yards. Jordan Drake caught three passes for 37 yards.
Seven different players helped Lowell rush for 324 yards on 54 carries. Dean led the Red Arrows on the ground with 119 yards on 11 attempts. Tyler Gallert added 78 yards on 18 carries.
Lowell scored on their opening possession going 82 yards in seven plays to take a 7-0 lead. Dean put the Red Arrows in scoring position with a 55 yard run. Drake capped the drive with a 10 yard touchdown reception.
The Rangers did not have much success on their first possession, senior quarterback Jack Shull was stopped on three straight plays for losses of 5, 2, and 1.
Sam Young extended Lowell's lead to 14-0 with a 4 yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. The score was the result of a 13 play 71 yard drive. Dean completed 3-of-4 passes on the drive for 37 yards, including a 21 yard completion to Drake. Young finished the drive with five carries for 19 yards.
The Red Arrows turned the ball over on their next two possessions. A fumble deep in Central territory and an interception by Marquese Mondy ended Lowell scoring threats.
Lowell got back on track late in the second quarter when Leighton Watson scored from 9 yards out to give Lowell a 21-0 lead. Dean had runs of 18 and 11 yards on the 11 play 64 yard drive. Watson carried the ball five times for 23 yards.
Matt Houston intercepted Schull two plays into the next Forest Hills Central drive to put Lowell right back in scoring position at the Ranger 22 yard line. The Red Arrows capitalized two plays later when Dean connected with Houston in the back of the end zone for a 15 yard touchdown. Lowell led 28-0 at halftime.
The Red Arrow defense opened the 3rd quarter by forcing the Rangers to go three and out. A mishandled punt snap gave Lowell the ball at the Ranger 23 yard line.
Dean scored two plays later on an 18 yard run. The touchdown gave the Red Arrows a 35-0 lead with 10:40 to play in the 3rd quarter.
Lowell's final touchdown came early in the 4th quarter when backup quarterback Renn Osborne went 19 yards down the Central sideline to give the Red Arrows a 42-0 lead. The touchdown came on a 15 play 66 yard drive. Gallert led the way with 11 carries for 46 yards.
The Red Arrows quickly regained possession when Jon Destine recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff. Lowell, led by Gallert with six carries for 29 yards, moved the ball down to the Central 1 yard line before turning the ball over on downs.
Lowell finished with 419 yards of total offense and a 42-0 victory.
Central quarterback Jack Schull completed 4-of-11 passes for 36 yards. Spencer Nehls led the Rangers on the ground with six carries for 7 yards.
Lowell will face Kenowa Hills in the Pink Arrow game next Friday. The Knights are 2-0 on the season after defeating Creston 56-0. Kenowa Hills will wear purple jerseys for the game in support of cancer research.
