Lyman scores 4 touchdowns in victory over Rangers

LOWELL--Blake Lyman scored four touchdowns as Lowell went on to defeat Forest Hills Central 35-6. Lyman finished with six receptions for 140 yards and three touchdowns. The senior also returned an interception 45 yards for a score mid-way through the fourth quarter.

The victory improves the Red Arrows to 4-0 on the season. Lowell enters conference play on Friday when they face Grand Rapids Christian (4-0) at home.

Forest Hills Central struck first, scoring on the first play of the game. Quarterback Justin Chopp threw a short pass to Spencer Nehls who raced 73 yards down the far sideline to give the Rangers a 6-0 lead.

Lowell answered on their first drive when senior Renn Osborne scored from 9-yards out and Grant Breuker added the extra point to give the Red Arrows a 7-6 lead.

The Rangers threatened on their next possession going 58 yards in seven plays before a fumble gave the ball back to the Red Arrows at their own 21 yard line. Josh Colegrove recovered the fumble.

After the turnover, senior quarterback Gabe Dean moved Lowell deep into Ranger territory before an interception gave the ball back to Central at the Ranger\'s seven yard line.

The turnovers continued as Chopp was intercepted by Jake Stehley ten plays later at the Lowell 39 yard line. The Rangers had moved 53 yards before turning the ball over.

Lowell failed to capitalize on the turnover. The Red Arrows moved the ball 40 yards in 8 plays but turned the ball over on downs at the Central 29 yard line.

The Red Arrow defense forced their third consecutive turnover on the Rangers next possession. Lyman intercepted Chopp at the Lowell 23 yard line to give possession back to the Red Arrows.

This time Lowell took advantage of the turnover. Dean hit Lyman for a 60-yard touchdown with 47 seconds remaining in the half and connected on a 2-point pass to Osborne to give Lowell a 15-6 halftime lead.

Lyman scored his second touchdown of the game on the opening drive of the second half. The 23-yard touchdown pass from Dean capped a 15 play drive that started at the Ranger\'s 39 yard line.

Lowell increased their lead to 28-6 early in the fourth quarter when Dean connected with Lyman for a 20-yard touchdown. Lyman\'s third touchdown capped an 11 play 61 yard drive for the Red Arrows.

The final touchdown of the game came when Lyman intercepted Chopp at the Ranger\'s 45 yard line.

Lowell finished with 474 yards of total offense, including 202 yards on the ground.

Dean completed 19-of-30 passes for 272 yards and led the Red Arrows on ground rushing for 96 yards on 27 attempts.

Forest Hills Central totaled 257 yards. Chopp completed 12-of-31 pass attempts for 185 yards. The Rangers rushed for 72 yards on 13 attempts.

Lowell\'s defense held the Rangers to just 26 yards after halftime.
